In last 3 weeks I must have used OLA at least 10 times, so convenient so easy. Book with just One click and zoom away to your destination.
No sweating out trying to hail a rick, or haggling with the driver, free from dust and pollution , all this at unbelievable price. Initially when the word got out about these affordable taxi's, I was very apprehensive really a taxi service that frees you from daily kich kich of auto waals. Honestly it has been such a boon, specially when S was out of country for a week , With a 2 year old in a new city, it's not easy driving down to places,Ola was my weekend saviour.
After hearing about the horrific incident that took place in Delhi earlier last week, my confidence has taken a beating. I was gloating in front of S, telling him how I wasn't worried about moving around the city of Hyderabad anymore, with these super taxi's around. I am not sure of anything now.
These apps have been dream come true , for party goers, office crowd, general public a easy no hassle solution for your commute. Yes, it is a genius idea, but is it really safe? Police fumbling , Government bickering , what's new! While they are at it , Uber cab issues a message of full co-operation while suspending the driver!! Really Uber? Suspension of driver? I am crazy mad at Uber, a US based company, where they do a complete background check and here in India, they had a twice convicted, serial rapist employed to ply unsuspecting female passenger!! They violated their very first rule of safety. They should be penalized soo heavily that the in future not only they follow the rules to the T, but also ensure that for every single lady passenger that travels in the car, they track their movement till the end!Heck send out an sms or call them to ensure they have reached their destination safely!!
I am also mad at the girl, why couldn't she call a friend, or play a game, hell surf facebook, anything that would help her stay awake instead of dozing off? Why didn't she just stay back with her friends or ask one of them to drop her off when the party was on till late hours? Why didn't it bother her that his photo had not been sent when the cab was confirmed ? It's about common sense, I don't think it would have been any safer for a boy It could have gone horribly wrong for him, mugged, beaten. As much as we would hate to admit , India still isn't safe for many ,especially women travelling all by themselves during late hours, My point, we all have to do our part of being alert.
None of this justifies sick-to-stomach dastardly act of violating a woman, scarring her physically & emotionally and then threatening her. I am shocked that sick person went about this act of cowardice just few kms away from her house. How safe are we really??
Dream has been shattered and reality is scary! Trust has been violated, But who's to blame?
